Aim: This course will equip participants with the relevant knowledge and skills to deliver a range of life saving techniques in an emergency situation.

Who is this course for? The course is for people who wish to learn AED and CPR but do not expect to use it regularly. It is suitable for non-acute healthcare personnel, such as healthcare assistants, medical secretaries and dental nurses and non-healthcare workers, including sports coaches, teachers and parents.

Certification: Upon successful completion of this course participants will be issued with a certificate from the Irish Heart Foundation / American Heart Association. This certificate is valid for 2 years and is credit card sized. As this course is certified by both the Irish Heart Foundation and the American Heart Association it is recognised internationally.

Course Topics:

  • Adult chest compressions.
  • Adult breaths.
  • Adult pocket face mask.
  • Adult practice.
  • Adult defibrillation.
  • Adult choking.
  • Child CPR full.
  • Infant CPR full.
  • Child choking.
  • Infant choking.

Course Objectives:

  • To understand the principles of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • To deliver a two-minute cycle of CPR.
  • To safely and effectively use a defibrillator.
  • To assist someone who is choking.

Method of Delivery: Video lead presentation by the Irish Heart Foundation, along with practical exercises.

Duration: 4 hours.

Assessment: Participants are tested on their practical skills.
