The Safe Handling & Administration of Medication
Aim: This online training course covers a wide range of topics relating to the safe handling and administration of medication within the healthcare industry, such as The Medicines Act and controlled drug schedules. Healthcare Staff need to be aware for need to check with the patient’s pharmacist and doctor before a patient taking OTC treatments that are not prescribed, in order to avoid potential adverse effects or interaction with existing prescribed treatment. Healthcare staff must not offer any advice on non-prescribed medicines or remedies. Healthcare Staff assist with the purchase or assist administration of OTC medicines unless suitability has been confirmed with a named and appropriate healthcare professional (pharmacist or GP), prescribed accordingly on the MAR and the product is being taken in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
Who is this course for? The course is designed for people working in the health or social care sector, including healthcare personnel who administer or assist with the administration of medication.
Certification: Upon successful completion of this course participants will be issued with a certificate valid for 2 years.
