Aim: 

This Prevention and Management of Aggression and Violence Course (PMAV) will equip the learner with the knowledge, confidence, and skill in recognising the early indicators for challenging behaviour, assessing and de-escalating challenging behaviour and methods to de-escalate crisis situations in a safe way.

Who is this course for:

Any individuals working in settings that may face challenging or acute behaviours.

The course is adaptable for all sectors (e.g., health, social care, education etc)

Certification: 

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a TTM/Qualtec certificate.

Certification Validity: 2 Years

Course Overview:

  • Theory of violence and aggression in the workplace

  • Ethical & Legal requirements associated with violence and aggression

  • Strategies to avoid occurrences of aggression and violence

  • Identification, assessment and resolution of conflict

  • De-escalation skills (verbal & non-verbal)

  • Risk assessments

  • Risks associated with the use of physical interventions

  • Physical Interventions Practice (classroom)

(Physical skills will be taught in accordance with regulations and can be adapted to your respective service needs and requirements).

This course is in line with HSE’s Policy on the Prevention and Management of Work-Related Aggression & Violence 2018, their Strategy for Managing Work-related Aggression and Violence within the Irish Health Service 2008 and the Mental Health Commissions’ Code of Practice on the use of Physical Restraint.

Method of Delivery:  Blended/Classroom

Assessment:

  • Participants must complete the online component prior to attending the classroom session. The online session takes approximately (1.5-2 hrs) to complete. A pass mark of 80% required.

  • Approx 2-3 hours in Classroom
